This lecture repositions architecture as agency, a practice working with communities that are frequently overlooked. Drawing from years of on-site engagement in rural and underserved contexts, Condition_Lab approaches architecture not as an object, but as a shared process of doing, seeing, hearing, and building. Through participatory design and collective construction, the work explores how architecture can serve people, expanding access to dignity, authorship, and quality space, an architecture that empowers communities.Speaker biography: is an architect, educator, and author passionate about reimagining the role of architecture in society. He graduated from Liverpool University and the University of Cambridge and began his career working with Herzog & de Meuron in Basel before transitioning to academia. Peter has taught at the Architectural Association in London and Seoul National University, before joining the School of Architecture at The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2014, where he now serves as Director. A co-founder of Condition_Lab and a recent fellow at Stanford’s Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences, Peter draws inspiration from merging Practice, Research and Teaching. Driven by a belief in architecture as a collective, participatory endeavor, Peter’s vision centers on empowering students and faculty, embracing curiosity, and fostering a spirit of community.The Inside Practice guest lecture series brings together emerging and established practitioners, alternative studios and allied professionals to share diverse approaches to architectural practice today.Image: Pintang Book House, photography: Sai Zhao
